I know y’all might call me a VSCO girl, a basic b and all sorts of things, but I can assure you a 100% if I was ever stranded on a desert island and had one wish, I would wish for chapstick with no doubt, I know you might call me an idiot and that I should wish for something logical that could get me out of there, but hear me out; I can never go an hour without applying lip balm or else my lips get super flakey and extra dry and I’m pretty sure none of you want that. Besides, who can live without their palmer’s original, it smells amazing and it truly is a balm.
Even though I am a lip balm enthusiast, I am very clumsy and I lose all my shit, like I could buy 10 chap sticks and by the end of the week I’ll find a way and I’ll manage to lose every single one of them, and that tends to bite me in the ass sometimes, because as I’ve said before I could not survive a whole day without it. So, I concocted a some sort of replacement for my beloved palmer’s and since we all have nothing better to do with our lives, why not go to the kitchen right now and start cooking up your own, if not for the love of lip balm let it be just for funsies. Trust me you’ll feel like a total beauty guru after doing this.
- TIP #1:
A small thing that makes a huge difference; is exfoliating your lips before applying anything to them, and here is where your average toothbrush can come in very handy, just use it and get rid of all the flakey dead skin.
*Benefits: plumps lips and keeps them looking hella fresh, a perfect way to allow your lip balm to sink in.
*How to: wet your lips with warm water, then start to scrub your lips gently with your toothbrush in a circular motion and say bye bye to chapped lips.
- TIP #2:
This is a really cool lip scrub that you can make from scratch with 2 or 3 holly kitchen essentials; brown sugar, honey and maybe coconut oil. Combine them all and boom, you got yourself a fancy lip scrub that cost little to nothing.
*Benefits: it gives your lips a little pick me up, they need some loving too and this scrub is the perfect way to revive your lips once more.
*Recipe: 1 teaspoon honey, 1 generous teaspoon brown sugar, 1 tablespoon coconut oil.
- LIP BALM #1:
- 1 tablespoon castor oil
- 1 tablespoon shea butter
- 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- food coloring if you wanna go crazy with it
So if you open your kitchen cabinet you’ll find most of them, and if not you can go to your nearest 3attar and he’s got you covered. After getting all of the items you’ll just put them in a pan and set the heat to low and be careful because they heat us pretty fast and can burn, or you can put them in a safe bowl and stick them into the microwave for 10-20 secs, then take them out and start mixing it all together (yes, a Hannah Montana reference, I had to), add a little color to make it look fun and fresh, and there you go, you got yourself a chemical free lip balm that’s full with nourishing ingredients.
*Benefits: really, really good and keeps your lips extra juicy, they’re all natural products that are made for moisture, it’s pretty easy to make too.
- LIP BALM #2:
- 3 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 tablespoon sweet almond oil
- 1 teaspoon Vaseline
- 1 teaspoon rose water (optional)
Again with the whole pan thingy or the microwave but this time put the coconut oil, Vaseline and honey together let the sit for a couple of seconds on the low heat or 10 second if in the microwave (don’t let them boil though, that means that it’s too much, this is the point where you fucked up, but otherwise you’re still safe), mix’em up with the almond oil and rose water, then leave it for 24h in the fridge to cool down.
*Benefits: I mean you pretty much get it, these are all very lip loving ingredients that help sooth chapped lips and keep the moisture locked for a solid.
