Brows, most of us have them, but some of us don’t! (Shoutout to Jeffree Star for always rocking the Alien look) Sparse, bushy, straight, arched, full, rounded, S-shaped, and many, many more. No matter what decade, brows have always made an appearance.
The 1920s hosted the SUPER thin brow trend, afterward came the 40s with natural brows (which are always a good idea), then the thin brows made a comeback for the ’90s and early 2000s, and we are now living in the age of the thick brows, which I’m pretty sure we’ve all seen on Instagram.
Although, I’m here to tell you that you don’t necessarily have to follow the latest brow trends for your brows to look good, with or without makeup.
If you choose to go the natural route and grow your brows out, there are probably a few things you should follow. Your brows could take anywhere from 8 weeks to a year to show some major progress. They grow out for four months, then the hairs shed, and the process repeats. Of course, there are a bunch of alternatives to waiting, you just have to figure out what works for you.
1. Castor Oil
I have personally seen this method work, castor oil is filled with proteins, fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins which will nourish your hair follicles to the max. Apply it every day on your brows for 30 minutes, then wash it off.
2. Coconut Oil
Coconut oil is a great strengthener for your eyebrows as it’s filled with fatty acids, which work with the natural proteins in the hair to promote anti-breakage. You can use it every day as well, or just a few times a week.
3. Olive Oil
We all probably know by now that olive oil is great for hair, I know my mother nagged me to death to do “mask zeit zatoon”. It contains vitamins A and E which helps hair growth. Use it every day for a couple of hours on your brows and rinse it off afterward.
4. Biotin/Eyelash & Eyebrow Serum
You could also buy a biotin or eyelash/eyebrow serum, I know Black Lotus Egypt has a great one! Put this on every day, I keep it on overnight and let it soak into the skin.
Now if you’re a makeup freak like me, you’ll know that using natural remedies just isn’t enough- which is why I’ve included a few tips to creating the best brows ever:
1. Choose an arch that suits your face shape.
You can find charts and more help online, and they’re super helpful.
2. Use. A. SPOOLIE!!!
Seriously, spoolies are your friend. Use whatever brow product you normally use. A brow pencil, pomade, gel, powder, whatever works. Spoolies help blend out the product more evenly while brushing your natural brow hairs.
3. Conceal to Emphasize
Repeat after me. Conceal. To. Emphasize. Conceal. To. Emphasize. Use concealer around the outline of your beautifully drawn brows to give them definition. This can also help highlight them and cover up any stray hairs.
4. Clear Brow Gel
If you want to go all the way, use some clear brow gel to keep your brow hairs in place all day. Essence has a really good one which will keep those brows looking sharp!
No matter what you do with your brows, make sure you take care of them. Invest in some eyebrow scissors to trim the hairs. You may not think it matters, but it does make a difference! Try to avoid plucking yourself as it can cause ingrown hairs over time, which we all know are a total nightmare. And of course, if you get your eyebrows done at the salon, make sure you go to someone you trust.
Most importantly, rock your brows! They’re a part of you, while trends come and go. Remember, everything always changes and evolves. You, on the other hand, are here to stay. So love yourself, no matter what’s “in” right now.
