It’s early February now, which means that as of last week, 80 percent of you have abandoned your New Year’s resolutions and accepted that you are, more or less, the same person you were in December. But I’m here to tell you that the secret to keeping them—which you should aspire to, if only because as our planet gets more and more dystopian, it’s worth believing in any upward trajectory you can—is to treat your resolutions like Trojan horses. How do you feed the dog the medicine? You nestle it inside the piece of cheese. Which brings me to ice cream, the aspirational treadmill of post-holiday winter, and why we should admit that the two are a perfect match. here are the top ice-cream places that are actually worth going to!
1. Gelato Mio
Tucked into a neat and cozy corner in Zamalek, Gelato Mio tops all ice cream places that I’ve been to personally. Gelato shakes, ice cream sandwiches, ice cream cakes and delicious, well priced ice cream. You name it, Gelato Mio has it!
2. Dara’s Icecream
There is no one in Cairo who doesn’t know about this place. Famous for their mouth-watering cookies and ice cream, I don’t need to ramble for long about this one, because if you haven’t tried it yet, what are you doing with your life?
3. Mandarine Koueider
Situated in Zamalek, Korba, Tagamoa and basically every district in Cairo, Mandarine Koueider is known for its wide range of desserts, but they also make some of the best ice cream I’ve ever tasted. Also how can you go wrong with their classic Nutella ice cream? Can you name any other place that does zabady toot like they do?
4. The Batter Half & Co
If you love macaroons then you’re sure to fall in love with The Batter Half& Co’s classic macaroon ice cream sandwich, they have all flavors available so you’re sure to find the one you love most! But also, just look at how creamy their ice cream looks.
5. Joya Gelato
If you’ve been here for a while, we’ve talked about this place before. It’s a stunning little truck at Capital Business Park with the cutest concept. This gelato is handmade with so many unique flavors that can only be found there, be sure to give it a try and spread joy while you’re at it.
With all the international branded ice cream shops in Cairo, I wouldn’t have imagined Stavolta to stand out. Well, it did. Ice cream with a consistency not too creamy, not too sweet, not insane but well played. A staple to this list, for sure.
7. Ikea + McDonald’s Soft Serve
And finally!! Cheap ice cream that is basically heaven-sent, ask for soft serve icecream at either places and you get a good portion of ice cream for a very good deal, trust me, nobody does soft serve vanilla ice cream better, I’d know, I tried it all.
