This year is bringing so much good music, whether it’s sensual or upbeat, it seems like everyone is upping their music game. We’ve got legendary artists making comebacks and some pretty insane (and empowering af) new faces – *cough* LIZZO *cough*. Without further ado, here’s a list of the most eargasm-ic tracks released this year, from rap to pop and everything in between.
1- Hope Is a Dangerous Thing for a Woman Like Me to Have, But I Have It – Lana Del Rey
Just a ballad for the sad souls, the ones who dare hope, knowing how dangerous that is, but do it anyway. I may not be a fan of Del Rey, but damn it, this is amazing.
2- No Guidance – Chris Brown ft. Drake
Currently on repeat and I can’t seem to help it, it’s so different from what has become the “evolved” Chris Brown and Drake both, that it’s a breath of fresh air.
3- Truth Hurts – Lizzo
I’d write something, but this has more or less become an anthem for millions around the world, so I’ll leave you with a verse from the track and let you decide:
“You tried to break my heart?
Oh, that breaks my heart
That you thought you ever had it
No, you ain’t from the start
Hey, I’m glad you’re back with your bitch
I mean who would wanna hide this?
I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever be your side chick
I put the sing in single
Ain’t worried ’bout a ring on my finger
So you can tell your friend, “shoot your shot” when you see ’em
It’s OK, he already in my DMs”
4- Cellophane – FKA Twigs
Imma say 2 things, FKA Twigs wrote this song entirely on her own almost a year ago, she has spent the last year actively and religiously learning to pole dance for the sole purpose of having her “vision” for the visuals of the song come to life. No one lives up to “quality over quantity” more than this woman.
5- Dancing With a Stranger – Normani, Sam Smith
Cue the tears, please drag a gigantic chocolate cake or a tub of cookie dough ice-cream, your pics and chats with your ex, and the biggest tissue box you can find. Done? You may proceed to listen now.
6- Rich, White, Straight Men – Kesha
The biggest activist-middle-finger in the damn world. I can almost feel my heart beat out of my chest every time I listen to this, “what if rich, white, straight men didn’t rule the world anymore?” Oh god, an anti-abortion law war cry couldn’t get better.
7- Exothermic – Faouzia
The 18 year old Moroccan-Canadian powerhouse is one of the world’s most incredible talents. I’ve never said a person was going to make it and they didn’t, I was a fan of Cigarettes After Sex and London Grammar and Dounia WAY before they became “vibes” and “moods”, Faouzia is the next big thing, trust me. She leaves me awed with every new song and every cover – pro tip: listen to her cover of J.Cole’s Middle Child.
8- Julien – Carly Rae Jepsen
Yes, the “Call Me Maybe” artist has blessed us with another hit, Julien. I kinda listened to this and immediately added it into my “when bored and cruising” playlist. The lyrics are a bit dark, but the 80s music completely set that off, so it gives you whiplash in the best of ways. It makes me want to cry, but it also makes me want to dance, so it’s an experience all on its own.
9- Please Me – Bruno Mars, Cardi B
Can we call this the “Finesse” sequel? This is a song not to hear when next to your parents, or any adult really, okay? This song should be illegal, it’s that hot. Like, if I hear Bruno Mars purr one more time, I will melt into a puddle. Illegal, I tell you.
10- Almost (Sweet Music) – Hozier
So, we got “Take Me to Church” back in 2013, I was in eighth grade, where the hell did the time go? Hozier gives us radio silence for five years, then drops this velvety bomb of goodness, and I actually forgive him. I can’t stop listening to this masterpiece.
11- Royal – Dounia
What is it with Moroccan females? Why they gotta be so insanely talented? Dounia is a damn dream y’all. Whether she’s rapping verses or harmonizing or belting out a couple of seemingly “uncharacteristic” notes, she’s bomb. I dare you to listen to Royal and not immediately download the entire album The Scandal.
12- Nights Like This – Kehlani ft. Ty Dolla $ign
You know those late-nights-turned-early-mornings where you just reminisce about old lovers? Well, this is a song to help you pick up the pieces of your broken heart, mostly, right alongside Kehlani herself.
13- Sucker – Jonas Brothers
You see “Jonas Brothers” and the nostalgic smile splits your face and you click on the link just to feel something from artists who represented happier times. Although, to be honest, it’s definitely a nice song, irrespective of it not being very into my vibes.
14- If I Can’t Have You – Shawn Mendes
Literally just another Shawn Mendes song, a little bit of love, a little bit of magic, and a little bit of boy charm. Again, not really my vibe, but we all need a little romancing and Shawn Mendes is definitely offering. This may be blasphemy to some of you, but this has One Direction vibes all over it, I swear the first time I listened to it, I thought it was Liam or Harry and not Shawn.
15- Focus – Bazzi
Highly sensual, highly sexual, and too bloody short. I could die happy listening to this song, Bazzi deserves way more recognition. It’s sultry but powerful and also somehow badboy but not really. The half-Lebanese artist can send me off to daydream land any day, for real. Please don’t listen with adults around, my mom gave me the sharpest glare when this blared through my laptop.
16- Lose Myself – Lolo Zouai
Lolo Zouai is one of the world’s hidden gems, I have yet to hear a single track that didn’t give me a high. The Pop and R&B artist is a complete vibe entirely on her own, she sings in English, French, and even a little of Arabic. Lose Myself is something to vibe to in somber moods and quiet moods, want to listen to have an eargasm though? Check out Desert Rose.
17- Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored
A sensual and seductive Ariana Grande is a dangerous Ariana Grande. This is so the song to send your to your crush as a hint. Post breakup Ariana is my favorite so far, to be quite honest.
18- Bad Guy – Billie Eilish
Just more ridiculous insanity that sends you spiraling down a creepy but dangerously fun mood. This may be creepy and just a tad psychotic, but I’m kinda loving how absolutely powerful it makes me feel.
19- Better – Khalid
Literally, nothing to say. It’s Khalid.
20- Nightmare – Halsey
Halsey may be my favorite artist of all time, but even this is a new high for her. I cannot stop screaming this song at the top of my lungs. Halsey and Kesha should collaborate considering the amount of musical middle fingers being thrown by em both. Brutal women need to be more celebrated, thank you Halsey.
Note: this is a scream it from the rooftops version, the BBCRadio1 version is the one that will send you to tears and leave you feeling like an exposed nerve, you’ve been warned.
There are so many other tracks released this year, some insanely popular ones, like Señorita and I Don’t Care, but, as much as they are summer-y and fun, they’re like repeats of tracks I’ve heard before. I tried to give you legends and new faces, people in the spotlight and hidden gems, all with insanely powerful tracks, lyrics that mean something and music that’s so good to listen to you just can’t stop. This isn’t your regular Buzzfeed list, this is something from the heart, I dare you to find something on here you cannot relate to, no matter your taste.
