You are bored of being stuck at home because of exams and you want to tefesh ghelak fi haga. I mean, it could be food but chances are, you are waiting for the azan or even if you are not you may be pretty full from el fetar, followed by a gorging session on that table of endless desserts and of course water.
So, the best thing you could do is binge-watch a series, more specifically a comedy series, as laughing cures everything and makes you feel so much better because of some biology things I will not bore you with. Or, maybe you are more into dark comedies because I do not know but they are great anyways. So, here are some of my favourite comedy shows and other people’s favourites as well, and I hope one of them fits your taste.
THE GOOD PLACE
IMDb Rating: 8.2/10
This show is crazy. I literally love it soooooo much; it’s crazy hilarious. So, from the picture you see 4 people are human and they die and go to the “good place”. But, something is wrong because Eleanor (Kristen Bell) is being described by the architect Michael as a completely different person than who she was in real life so they gave her the right name, but other than that everything else about her is wrong. And, she doesn’t want to go to the “bad place”. So, she tries to work with her soulmate who is an ethical philosophy professor to be a good person so she could fit in. Their relationship is literally so funny and cute. Anyways, with all of the dynamics, there are all these people who are trying to fit into a neighborhood. A shit tonne of twists. Every episode will leave you going: “WHAT?!” “NO FORKING WAY”
P.s this is not a typo. Watch the show to understand 🙂
IMDb Rating: 8.9/10
I mean you could argue with me all day that this is an overrated sitcom with unrealistic events. But, it just never gets old. And, the jokes never fail to make one crack and start tearing up from how funny they are. And, please Phoebe Buffay singing I am in all day every day. I mean this one is just iconic, and it will always lift you up.
If you have not watched friends before, you do need a better excuse to binge-watch all 10 seasons.
IMDb Rating: 8.2/10
This one is a dark comedy, and it’s fucking brilliant. I will never pass on a chance to recommend you a piece of work by Benedict Cumberbatch because he is a brilliant actor that takes part in brilliant pieces of work like this one. So, Benedict plays Patrick Melrose who is privileged young english man from the “creme de la creme” of society and yet he has had a very traumatic childhood and then suffers through heroin addiction. This is really good because the dialogues whether the people talking or the inner dialogues Patrick has are very sharp, interesting and funny in a very weird way.
This is a mini-series of only 5 episodes. And, it’s based on Edward St. Aubyn’s semi-autobiographical novels.
Here is a snippet from a scene in a restaurant:
Waiter: Would sir care for a dessert?
Patrick: Care for it? How do you care for a dessert? Feed it? Visit it on Sundays?
This makes me crack up every time I swear.
IMDb rating: 7.2/10
This is a Lebanese series and it’s actually quite funny. Like, you will genuinely laugh from your heart. So, Maya (Maguy Abu Ghosn) was given a piece of caramel and it made her start to listen to people’s minds- I mean men’s minds. So, her friend and aunt used to tell her that she did not understand men, and so this was her chance. Then, she falls in love with a man and she can no longer hear his thoughts. It’s pretty cliche – the love story – but listening to people’s minds is hilarious. And honestly, most of the character dynamics are amazing.
IMDb rating: 8.5/10
This is probably one of the best “adult-animations” in my opinion. It has hilarious jokes and quite sad-sad scenes if that makes sense. It will kind of break your heart and will definitely have you hooked!
EL KABEER AWY
IMDb rating: 8/10
I know it got boring after Dounia left, but I do remember laughing endlessly the first few seasons and since we are not getting anymore of that hilarious dynamic it might be worth it to stream the old seasons and rewatch them to have a laugh.
BIG BANG THEORY
IMDb rating: 8.2/10
Big Bang Theory was always a favourite, or maybe because my friends are nerds (well probably me included) I don’t know.
IMDb rating: 8.4/10
Watching highschool dramas and teen comedies never gets old, but sex education for so many reasons is so special, it’s not just the show that starts with a sex scene. Save your giggles.
IMDb rating: 8.5/10
Last, but certainly not least is Fleabag. This is probably my favourite on the entire list. This show is fucking brilliant because Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a genius. She simply is a fucking genius. So, this show revolves around a girl- one we do not know her know so we assume she is Fleabag and we follow her life around to see her struggle due to the death of her friend, and mama. We see her struggle with her sex life, relationships- with her boyfriend(s), dad, sister, sister’s husband and step mom. Her step-mother is played by the amazing Olivia Colman. Omg, just thinking about this makes me laugh hysterically.
It’s only two seasons. Each season 6 episodes. Each episode 25-or-so minutes. So it’s quite short, but totally worth every single minute!
After, season 2 your only thought would be the sexy priest- thank you Andrew Scott for being the best priest ever.
Go have a laugh,
