9 Easy, Delicious, and Relatively Healthy Smoothies to Kickstart Your Day

By: Rawan Aboseif

With schools and universities starting, you will be seeing more sleepy faces, cups of coffee, and exhaustingly long lines at coffee houses. People start the days they need attention and energy in with the worst of habits, which is consuming coffee. What makes matters even worse is their consumption of coffee on an empty stomach. Let me welcome you to biology 101. Consuming coffee, which is basic, daily on an empty stomach, which is naturally acidic, lead to the degeneration of the stomach lining , leaving you with pain and ulcer. Plus, coffee does not replace you breakfast, so it gives you energy due to the caffeine in it, which is an addictive drug, which means that sooner or later you will need coffee everyday or else you will show drug withdrawal symptoms.

The question here is: why do you need to go through all this when you can easily replace coffee with a delicious, nutritious smoothie that actually gives you energy and might replace your breakfast? In addition, these smoothies can be your pre or post workout snack. Most of the ingredients in those smoothies are kind of repeated but taste different in each one of them. You will notice that either bananas, berries, or spinach (yup, you read that one right) are available in every single smoothie. Hence, they are the true energy factories that you need to consume daily. Besides, those smoothies are all vegan friendly. You can replace the milk with coconut, almond, or soy milk and still get an amazing taste and all the benefits. Also, make sure t put the softer ingredients near the blades of the blender for better, safer results, and you can add a tablespoon of protein powder to any of these smoothies if you want, although I don’t think is necessary.

Breakfast Energy Smoothie

Combine 2 cups of fresh orange juice, 1 cup of regular or greek yogurt (preferably greek as it is high in protein), 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract (for flavor), and 2 cups of mixed fresh or frozen berries, depending on whether you like your smoothie ice cold or not., in a blender. Blend until completely smooth, pour it in a cup, store the extras in your fridge, and enjoy your delicious, healthy smoothie. This smoothie can be a huge alternative for  your breakfast if you are in a hurry.

Detox Green Smoothie

Combine 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, 1 tablespoon of lime or lemon juice, 1 tablespoon of honey,  1 cup of greek/regular yogurt, and 2 cups of fresh spinach (YES, spinach. It is a green smoothie, what did you expect?), 1 peeled and chopped pear, 15 green grapes, and 1/2 cup of ice cubes in the blender. Blend until smooth, pour, and enjoy. This is not only an iron rich smoothie. In fact, this smoothie detoxifies your body, which will result in strengthening your immune system, helping you stay strong against any passing flu.

Banana Smoothie

Combine 1/2 cup of milk, 3/4 cup of yogurt, 2 tablespoons of vanilla creamer (Nestle CoffeeMate offers that flavor in stores), and 2 frozen bananas in the blender. Blend, pour, and enjoy it. I recommend this smoothie for anyone before doing any sort of workout or visit to the gym. It will give you tons of energy for your upcoming laborious work.

Pineapple-Kale Smoothie

Combine 1/4 cup of pineapple, 1 cup of kale or 2 cups of de-stemmed kale leaves, 1 teaspoon of coconut oil, juice of 1/2 lime, 1 cup of milk, 1 teaspoon of green tea, and 1/2 cup of regular/greek yogurt in your blender. Blend, pour, and enjoy.

Sunburst Energy Smoothie

This smoothie tastes as good as it sounds, and after finding out its ingredients, I knew it gives a ton of energy. IN your blender, combine 3/4 cup of frozen pineapple, 3/4 cup of frozen mango, 3/4 cup of fresh orange juice, a banana, 1 tablespoon of chia seeds, and a handful of spinach is  optional if you want the smoothie green, which is another expression for iron rich.

Super-Energy Smoothie

Chocolate Peanut-butter Smoothie

This is my ultimate favorite and yummiest of them all, apparently because it does not only have chocolate, but also has peanut butter. Combine 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder, 2 tablespoons of peanut butter (preferably creamy),2 tablespoons of greek/regular yogurt, 1/2 cup of cold milk, 1/2 cup of ice cubes, and a frozen banana in your blender and enjoy the rich, creamy taste of smoothie heaven.

Berry-Vanilla-Banana Smoothie

If its name has that much components, how much ingredients would that smoothie require? Well, it requires a cup of milk, 1/3 cup of greek/regular yogurt, 1/4 cup of frozen blueberries, 1/4 cup frozen blackberries, 1/4 cup of frozen red grapes, 1/2 frozen banana, and 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Now, savor the beautiful taste of each ingredient.

Paleo Caveman Smoothies

This sophisticated name brings with it a very different, coconut-y taste compared to all the other smoothies. You will need 2 bananas, 1/2 cup of strawberries, the juice of 1 lemon, 2 tablespoons of powdered almonds, a cup of milk, a tablespoon of cinnamon, 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, a cup of coconut milk, and a tablespoon of cocoa powder. You will never find a smoothie of such taste anywhere.

Now, you can enjoy an on-the-go smoothie that is relatively healthy and very beneficial  for you all the while getting enough energy to go forward with your ever exhausting day.
