Her Cloak Was Midnight

By: Hanna Haitham

her cloak was midnight
as she softly wept, thinking of all that’s yet to come
her stars burned bright
but they’re sheathed by pain
pain of the past she came from

her cloak was midnight
when she sought the truth
sought answers for questions she had yet to ask

her cloak was midnight
as she looked for proof
proof that she could escape at last

her cloak was midnight
as those big eyes cried a river and drowned

her cloak was midnight
as she asked herself if i’m lost do i wanna be found

her cloak was midnight as she prayed and prayed
for wishes that never came

her cloak was midnight
as she rattled the cage
and softly screamed for the light of day

her cloak was midnight
as she tried to believe
and see all the things she used to see

her cloak was midnight
as crawled into her mind
leaving her sunshine behind

her cloak was midnight
as she forgot herself
forgot her truth, forgot her goals

her cloak was midnight
as she stumbled around
looking for the daylight someone stole

her cloak was midnight
the moon in her shadow
she tried to conquer
and tried to believe
her cloak was midnight
as she wandered
on the brink of insanity
