Gave My Heart to a Fallen Angel

By: Hanna Haitham

gave my heart to a fallen angel
his dark wings surrounded me
soul of an angel, heart of a devil
not as innocent as they seem
he tempted me to cross to his side
while his eyes held a wicked gleam
he told me “ the purpose you seek you will find”
but when white goes to black you cross to the extreme

gave my heart to a fallen angel
his hands were stained with coal
he told me we were us, we don’t need a label
and i believed he had a heart of gold
his eyes held promise of the future
as he held mine in his hand
although my fears were neutral
he made what we had seem grand

gave my heart to a fallen angel
and through the storm i’ve ridden
i’ve let my doubts dangle
even though it all seemed forbidden
he said he’d show my the world
he had it mapped out in his brain
and i blindly followed like a little girl
and in his path i’ve found my pain

gave my heart to a fallen angel
he flung it in the air of spring
i look at him and see a stranger
my heart’s pieces line his wings
he was a fallen angel for a reason
one i chose to ignore
now my heart accused me of treason
and i don’t know what’s in store

gave my heart to a fallen angel
so he became the king
i knew i had no savior
when he darkened my wings
