Known to most only for his role in the Egyptian duo “Aguizi and Fahim” , Youssef Aguizi is actually a force to be reckoned with on his own. The professional disc jockey and producer has gotten the opportunity to enter a large venue – specifically – Pacha at the age of 13; where he instantly fell in love with the beats.
Aguizi’s love for music was supported by his parents, who bought him a new Pioneer mixer and a laptop as soon as they learned of their son’s new passion. A year later, after mastering his equipment of course, he started remixing songs of various well known artists. For two years he practiced and worked till he started playing sets at private parties and small local events.
Bear in mind that this entire process was happening up until Aguizi was only 16 years old and still a High School student. Upon being asked if his academics were ever a drawback for his career as a DJ, he said that academics were never really an obstacle as he is well known for being an organized person, giving his very best to every task he faces in order to achieve his goals. His school ended up providing another opportunity for him indirectly in the form of his best friend and partner Yehia Fahim.
Fahim started putting loops together on Sony Acid Music, before both Aguizi and Fahim started working with Ableton and launched their careers as a duo under the name “Aguizi and Fahim”. They started the project in 2011 and it went really well, especially after winning The Student DJ Competition back in 2011, talk about a great launch. They produced their first track with the title “SMOOVE”, a progressive deep house track that was – unfortunately – unreleased. After winning the competition, people started asking them to play at their venues and parties, from elite clubs like “Loca Loca” in Gouna and “Cairo Jazz Club” in Cairo to private parties and small platforms.
Things went a little stiff for them in 2013, because of the 8 pm curfew that was issued by the government in order to maintain security after The Revolution in 2011. Though things went back to the way it used to be in 2014, when parties started going strong and wild again. They started gaining attention on social media; especially on Instagram and the famous music app SoundCloud. Their first hit ” Rainbows”; a chill oriental track came out in 2015 thus becoming their signature track in every set, introducing a new genre to Egyptian party goers.
The duo went on to produce “Sahl El Kalam” in 2017 which became an even bigger hit than “Rainbows” and their new signature track. Not only that, it caught the attention of Egyptian fashion icon and young entrepreneur Hadia Ghaleb, and suddenly it became her summer 2k17 anthem/jam. “Aguizi and Fahim”‘s fame and success in no way takes from Fahim and Aguizi’s individual success, including their seperate SoundCloud accounts. Cairo Jazz Club is Aguizi’s favorite venue as he says he enjoys the good quality music and the crowd that usually visit CJC. So that’s probably where you can find him.
